Camera / AI vision: the least complicated choice

Vision robots recognise lawn, edges, beds and obstacles directly in the camera image – the way a person sees the garden. There is no antenna, no satellite reception and no wire that could be cut. The TerraMow V600 and V1000 work on this principle with AI image processing and mow in clean parallel lanes. In its review of the V1000, heise online concluded: “without RTK and LiDAR … surprisingly good”.

The honest limitation: in complete darkness a camera robot pauses and resumes as soon as there is daylight again. RTK GPS: precise, but antenna-dependent

RTK models determine their position to the centimetre via satellites plus their own reference antenna in the garden. That works very well – as long as the antenna has a clear view of the sky. Under dense trees, between tall house walls or next to carports the signal can drop; the robot then stops or fails to cover areas reliably.
